Chinese New Year Special: CNY Goodies 2019

Chinese New Year (also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival) is regarded as the most important festival for Chinese families all over the world. There will be the reunion dinner, gatherings, and many house visits – certainly it will be a very eventful period! This year, Chinese New Year will be on the 5th of February and we can’t wait!

Of course, with all the festivities of Chinese New Year, CNY goodies are surely a prominent feature in any celebration. Our Chinese New Year goodies are always a hit at any CNY party and they also make for a great gift. On top of our much-loved traditional favourites, we will also be having some new items! The weeks leading up to Chinese New Year are always a busy time for us at 603 Tau Sar Piah, but we are excited to share with everyone the range of CNY goodies we have prepared for 2019!

Traditional Favourites

Pineapple Rolls 603 Tau Sar Piah

Let us start with the all-time-favourite Pineapple rolls, which definitely should not be missed! On top of our standard pineapple rolls, we also offer our 603 Signature Pineapple Rolls. Each roll is handmade and filled with our hand-grated pineapple filling. Making our signature pineapple filling is a tedious process, but the pineapple flavour is richer and brings a characteristic tart-sweetness that is distinct from machine-blended pineapples.

Pineapple Tarts 603 Tau Sar Piah

We also offer pineapple tarts which are like pineapple rolls, but then takes on a different texture due to the different pastry.

Now you may wonder – Rolls vs Tarts? There are loyal fans for both teams. Whether which you will like more is a personal answer, and I’m not telling you which I prefer!

Try both and decide which is your favourite! Hey, that’s a pretty fun CNY activity in itself.

Kueh Bahulu 603 Tau Sar Piah

Kueh Bahulu, a soft mini cake that is a delightful treat for people of all ages. Our Kueh Bahulus are especially soft and fluffy. As such, they are well loved by young children, the elderly, and everyone in between! It’s hard to exactly describe the taste, but each bite is aromatic and brings a subtle taste of egg – we believe this is a defining characteristic for a good Kueh Bahulu.

Kueh Bangkit 603 Tau Sar Piah

Kueh Bangkits are coconut cream cookies and for many, they are a firm favourite amongst the Chinese New Year snacks. We grew up eating these, and in our family, the tubs of Kueh Bangkits are always the first to finish. Our Kueh Bangkits are crispy on the outside, yet they just melt in your mouth. They bring just the right amount of sweetness, so even if you don’t usually like sweet treats, you will enjoy this!

Our yam cakes and carrot cakes are a must-have for Chinese New Year. Not just are they delicious, they are also symbolic because of their auspicious names – 好意头 & 好彩头, which are well wishes in mandarin. Filled with lots of dried shrimps, dried scallops, mushrooms, and chinese sausages, these kuehs will delight your taste buds. They can be served either steamed or panfried. For chilli lovers, pair it with our grandmother’s sambal chilli (which truly does go well with almost anything)!
